Who is Vasyl Lomachenko and is he the next Tiger Woods of boxing?

While he may not be that big in stature you would be very wrong in thinking that Vasyl Lomachenko is a man to be crossed in a fight, he is the newly crowned WBA champion with a record of 11 wins, 9 of which were from knockout and 1 loss.

His professional career debut was in 2013 with his win over Mexican fighter Jose Ramirez in the fourth round. His most recent victory was over Jorge Linares where they fought at Madison Square Garden in New York City. His win over Linares was not as easy of a task as his previous fights, Lomachenko was dropped in the sixth and the judges had it scored a split draw when the contest was stopped.

A fight that could be on the cards in the future if they can iron out all of the finer details might be with Mikey Garcia; the WBC lightweight champ is very confident that he would be able to stop Lomachenko in his tracks.

Mikey’s head trainer Robert Garcia, is sure that that his fighter has superior skills in the ring and would outclass his opponent in every way. This confidence is not without reason, Garcia has a 38 – 0 win/loss ratio 30 of those wins were by knockout.

Bob Arum from Top Rank who promote Lomachenko have informed reporters that negotiating a unification with Garcia is a difficult task and that he does not have the patience for it, Garcia, who was also promoted by Top Rank until just a few years ago has stated that he has had no contact with Arum since June of 2013 and was quoted saying “When was the last time he talked to me personally? Back in Dallas for the Lopez fight, at the airport,” Garcia said. “That’s the last time I remember. I don’t know what he’s talking about that it would be so difficult.”

Only time will tell if these 2 fighters will meet but, in the meantime Lomachenko is being lined up to be in Los Angeles most likely to fight against WBO champ Ray Beltran.
