Rafael Nadal Wins the Italian Open for a record 8th Time

Raphael Nadal has always been a force to be reckoned with but can this guy ever be stopped? Nadal beat Alexander Zverev to win the Rome title for an amazing and record breaking 8th time, the Spaniard closed it out at a 6-1 1-6 6-3 victory.

This win means that Nadal has once again regained his number 1 position ahead of Roger Federer before the French Open which starts on Saturday.

At first it seemed as though Nadal would cruise the match and have an easy win but he made a number of errors which is out of character for the 31-year-old. The German who is 10 years the junior broke Nadal’s serve in the opening game of the deciding set and held on to that break to lead 3-1 before rain caused an 11-minute delay.

Nadal finished the match after a second longer rain delay in which he won four games in a row to win the match. The win is his 78th ATP Tour title and takes him above John McEnroe and into 4th place of most men’s titles won in the Open era.
